Wurtsboro, NY - A colorful sun dog is visible in the sky as the sun nears the horizon on the afternoon of Nov. 16, 2009. The phenomena occurs because of refraction in hexagonal ice crystal in the atmosphere. The colors are from the ice crystals acting as prisms on the sunlight.
