Middletown, New York - A team from the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation used canoes and kayaks to round up Canada geese at Fancher-Davidge Park on June 23, 2014. The DEC herded the geese into a pen and then banded the geese that did not already have bands. Geese are banded in late June and early July because they are molting and unable to fly. Banding helps scientists learn about the birds' migration, feeding patterns and other behaviors.

The Orange County Law Enforcement Officer Memorial Service was held in front of the county courthouse on May 2, 2014. The memorial service honors the memory of the 27 members of the Orange County law enforcement community that died in the line of duty. The service also pays tribute the families and loved ones left behind for their courage, dignity and perseverance.

Goshen, New York - The Relay for Life at Goshen High School was held on June 19, 2011. The Relay for Life is the American Cancer Society's signature fundraising event. Participants celebrate the lives of people who have battled cancer, remember loved ones lost, and fight back against the disease by raising money. The Goshen event raised more than $78,000.

Goshen, New York - A crop duster sprays herbicide while flying over a black dirt field planted with onions on May 21, 2011. The herbicide kills the barley, which was planted with onions in the field to shield the onions from the wind. The barley grows faster but then has to be killed.

Montgomery, New York - Three World War II planes from the Collings Foundation were on display and available for tours and flights at Orange County Airport on Oct. 2, 2010. The planes were a B-17 Flying Fortress bomber, a B-24 Liberator bomber and P-51 Mustang fighter.

A candlelight service is held at the Washingtonville 5 Firefighters World Trade Center Memorial each year on Sept. 11. The Memorial was built in honor of five FDNY firefighters from Washingtonville and the many others who lost their lives on September 11, 2001 in the World Trade Center terrorist attack. When the 9/11 anniversary takes place on a clear night, the beams from the Tribute in Light in Manhattan can the seen from the Washingtonville memorial.

Bear Mountain, New York - A newly rebuilt section of the Appalachian Trail at Bear Mountain was opened during National Trails Day at Bear Mountain on June 5, 2010. A ceremony and hike celebrated the reconstruction of this original section of the Appalachian Trail. More than 800 volunteers, along with professionals, built 800 rock steps a trail bed with rock walls.

The 3 Days at the Fair races were held May 14-16, 2010, at the Sussex County Fairgrounds in Augusta, N.J. Long distance runners competed in 48-hour, 24-hour, 12-hour and six-hour races.

Blooming Grove, New York - An Air2 helicopter carried workers and equipment to a transmission tower on Oct. 22,2015. Orange and Rockland Utilities (O&R), Con Edison of New York and Central Hudson Gas & Electric are jointly building a new transmission project to bring more power from upstate New York down to the Hudson Valley. The project calls for the installation, operation and maintenance of the Sugar Loaf to Rock Tavern segment of a new 345kV transmission line that would extend 27.4 miles from an existing substation in Ramapo to an existing substation at Rock Tavern in New Windsor. The Sugar Loaf to Rock Tavern segment of the line is 11.8 miles and is being installed on existing transmission towers owned by Con Edison.

Goshen, New York - The Goshen High School Leo Club hosted a Color Run on May 22, 2016, at Goshen High School. The Color Run is an untimed run/walk that is fun for all ages. During the race, participants were doused with color at various color stations ending with one final color celebration at the finish line. There was also music, refreshments, games and promotional tables at the event. The race benefited the Goshen Leo Club, which plans to make a donation to a local organization.

Participants celebrate the lives of people who have battled cancer, remember loved ones lost, and fight back against the disease by raising money.

The SRT (Shawangunk Ridge Trail) Run/Hike was held on Sept. 16-17, 2016. The event featured races of 70 miles, 50 miles, 30 miles and 13.1 miles. The 70-mile race started in High Point, N.J. The SUNY Orange Apprentice Player performed an evening of five one-act plays, under the billing of “Five For One,” at Orange Hall Theatre on the college’s Middletown campus on Nov. 17, 2016. The student productions showcased “Poor Shem” by Gregory Hischak, "Absolution" by Brian C. Petti, “Rules of Comedy” by Patricia Cotter, "Art of Negociation by Petti, and “Comfort Inn" by Rinne Groff."

Orange County Executive Steven M. Neuhaus served as the keynote speaker at a Naturalization ceremony at the county Emergency Services Center on Nov. 17, 2016. A total of 86 people from 45 countries took the Oath of Allegiance and became citizens of the United States of America.
