A candlelight service is held at the Washingtonville 5 Firefighters World Trade Center Memorial each year on Sept. 11. The Memorial was built in honor of five FDNY firefighters from Washingtonville and the many others who lost their lives on September 11, 2001 in the World Trade Center terrorist attack. When the 9/11 anniversary takes place on a clear night, the beams from the Tribute in Light in Manhattan can the seen from the Washingtonville memorial.

The SRT (Shawangunk Ridge Trail) Run/Hike was held on Sept. 13-14, 2019. The event featured races of 70 miles, 50 miles, 30 miles and 13.1 miles. The 70-mile race started in High Point, N.J. All of the raced ended in Rosendale.

Goshen, New York - A crop duster sprays herbicide while flying over a black dirt field planted with onions on May 21, 2011. The herbicide kills the barley, which was planted with onions in the field to shield the onions from the wind. The barley grows faster but then has to be killed.

Girls on the Run is a national program with a mission of helping girls to be joyful, healthy and confident using an experience-based curriculum which creatively integrates running.

The Warwick Applefest harvest celebration was held on Sunday, Oct. 3, 2010. The festival of apples, arts, crafts, food and entertainment is presentd by the Warwick Valley Chamber of Commerce and the Warwick Valley Community Center. An estimated 30,000 people attended the festival.

Middletown, New York - A team from the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation used canoes and kayaks to round up Canada geese at Fancher-Davidge Park on June 23, 2014. The DEC herded the geese into a pen and then banded the geese that did not already have bands. Geese are banded in late June and early July because they are molting and unable to fly. Banding helps scientists learn about the birds' migration, feeding patterns and other behaviors.

Blooming Grove, New York - An Air2 helicopter carried workers and equipment to a transmission tower on Oct. 22,2015. Orange and Rockland Utilities (O&R), Con Edison of New York and Central Hudson Gas & Electric are jointly building a new transmission project to bring more power from upstate New York down to the Hudson Valley. The project calls for the installation, operation and maintenance of the Sugar Loaf to Rock Tavern segment of a new 345kV transmission line that would extend 27.4 miles from an existing substation in Ramapo to an existing substation at Rock Tavern in New Windsor. The Sugar Loaf to Rock Tavern segment of the line is 11.8 miles and is being installed on existing transmission towers owned by Con Edison.

The 2018 Shawangunk Ridge Trail (SRT) Run/Hike was held on Sept. 14-15, 2018. Runners competed in unsupported races of 70, 50, 30, and 13.1 miles. The Shawangunk Ridge Trail (SRT) is a 70-mile hiking trail that traverses the entire length of the Shawangunk ridgeline, from High Point State Park in New Jersey, where the SRT intersects the Appalachian Trail, all the way to the town of Rosendale, New York, where the trail ends just beyond a restored railroad trestle high above the Rondout Creek. Along the way, the SRT passes through rolling hills covered in hardwood forests, Southern New York’s largest wetlands, rare dwarf pine barrens, sky lakes, waterfalls, and the distinctive white quartzite conglomerate cliffs of the Shawangunk mountains, which were uplifted almost three hundred million years ago.

The Relay for Life is the American Cancer Society's signature fundraising event. Participants celebrate the lives of people who have battled cancer, remember loved ones lost, and fight back against the disease by raising money.

Goshen, New York - The Goshen High School Leo Club hosted a Color Run on May 22, 2016, at Goshen High School. The Color Run is an untimed run/walk that is fun for all ages. During the race, participants were doused with color at various color stations ending with one final color celebration at the finish line. There was also music, refreshments, games and promotional tables at the event. The race benefited the Goshen Leo Club, which plans to make a donation to a local organization.

Town of Wallkill, New York - Workers from CMC Construction Group of Slate Hill, N.Y., build a new highway salt barn behind the town's Highway Department property at the intersections of Route 302 and 17M on Nov. 25. 2013. The The new storage site will be able to hold about 4,000 cubic tons of salt, compared to 1,800 in the old one, and will be big enough to allow trucks delivering salt to unload inside the building.

West Point, New York - The fourth annual West Point and Wreaths Across America ceremony was held the West Point Cemetery at the United States Military Academy on Dec. 7, 2013. Volunteers placed 2074 wreaths at graves in the cemetery.

Cornwall played New Paltz in a Section 9 Class A semifinal football game at Faller Field in Middletown on Friday, Oct. 31, 2014. Cornwall won 47-7.

Trout season opened in New York State on April 1, 2015. Snow and ice still covered the banks of the Neversink River, where the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation stocked about 6,000 brown trout.
